Introduction

The purpose of this handbook is to establish a source of truth for Sone and how it operates.

It's intended to be a living public document, and should always be treated as a draft. Technologies progress rapidly, issues arise, and landscapes shift. We are open and prepared for change and seek to remain flexible in our structure for it's inevitability.

We believe keeping this document relevant is an integral part of our organization, and have an expectation for our contributors to help maintain it. Such an emphasis is placed because:

  • Reading is asynchronous and much faster to process than listening.
  • This handbook is available on demand, without the need for someone to be available.
  • Contributor retention is easier if everyone can see our values, policies, and how we operate.
  • Working together as a team is more effective if you have open knowledge on all aspects of the organization.
  • Change discussion is more informed if the current and past processes are available.
  • Documented processes cannot be undersold on their value.
  • Creates an environment where everyone can contribute to change by proposing a merge request.

Interpretation​

As with any document, this handbook is subject to the reader's interpretation. While we always aim to minimize misinterpretation and verboseness, we understand that communication is inherently difficult, interpretations can vary based on culture, and contributors may not be writing in their native language.
